Movie Recommendation Of The Week: The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

'The Bourne Ultimatum' is a 2007 American action spy film directed by Paul Greengrass. It is very loosely based on the Robert Ludlum novel of the same name). It is the third film in the Bourne series, the fourth film 'The Bourne Legacy' (released today 13/08/12) is the first of the series not to have Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) as the main character. Matt Damon reprises his role as Ludlum's signature character, former CIA assassin and psychogenic amnesiac Jason Bourne, who follows on with Bourne being chased by authorities in Moscow. Bourne is on a mission to finally find out who he really is, and to bring down those that have taken everything from him.

The reason why I am recommending this film instead of 'The Bourne Identity', the first film in the series, is because this was the first of the series that I watched. You read that right. I had never seen a Bourne films before going to see 'The Bourne Ultimatum' in the cinema, and even without seeing the first two I was able to pick up the story quite easily. So with 'The Bourne Legacy' having a good chance of topping the box office, anyone who wants to see it but hasn't watched any of the previous films, you can get away with just watching one of them if you feel like you don't have the time to watch all three.

Obviously I'm not just telling you to watch this film because a sequel is coming out, I am telling you to watch it because it is a cracking film. It has a really interesting story, an epic car chase (which includes Bourne driving backwards off the top of a building), an awesome rooftop chase and a gritty hand to hand fight scene. It's everything you could possibly want from a Bourne film, and was a great way to end the trilogy (back when it was a trilogy). A sequel never needed to be made, but I guess if the demands there, then they'll keep making them. It is a fact that the James Bond reboot 'Casino Royale', was made to compete with the Bourne films. People wanted a much more realistic and gritty type of spy film. Thanks to Jason Bourne, we now have 'Skyfall' to look forward to. 'The Bourne Legacy' is a 9/10 for me, definitely worth your time,
